how to drink: rosemary tea
Did you know that rosemary makes a highly aromatic herbal tea? Not only is it tasty but a cup can help clear sinuses, ease sore throats and boost memory. It’s a favourite of mine on a chilly evening when I feel a cold coming on or need a little pick-me-up.
How to brew:
Remove leaves from the sprig by running your fingers along the stem in the opposite direction of growth. Finely chop the leaves with a knife or mezzaluna and place in an infuser or mug and pour over water that’s just boiled. Use between 1-3 teaspoons of leaves depending on preferred strength of the tea. Cover the mug/infuser with a saucer or lid, to maintain the aromatic oils.
Leave to infuse for anything between two and twenty minutes. People have different sensitivity to herbal tastes and fragrance - for example I like a very strong rosemary tea yet my partner can’t stand anything that’s brewed for longer than a minute - so it’s a good idea to start weakly and go from there so as to not overwhelm your senses.
Once the tea is to your taste you can remove the leaves through a strainer if brewing directly in a mug, and enjoy! Make sure to breathe in the fragrant steam while you drink as this will help to clear blocked sinuses.
You can drink up to 3 cups of rosemary tea a day, however avoid if pregnant and always do your own research if you have health conditions or are taking medication.
